GREENSBORO, N.C. -- As they approach the end of their 2005 Master Plan renovations, officials at the Greensboro Science Center are planning for the future.

  • Tuesday they announced the massive expansions and renovations that are part of The Gateway Project.
  • The goal is to integrate the arts along with science in their exhibits and interactive opportunities.
  • The Center already produces $77 million in annual economic impact, and this plan would expand that.

Tuesday they announced the massive expansions and renovations that are part of The Gateway Project.

The goal is to integrate the arts along with science in their exhibits and interactive opportunities.

"It seemed like a natural marriage. So to bring everything together through this gateway concept, a gateway to new ways of thinking, a gateway to new science, a gateway to the arts and sciences that pulls you in and kind of illustrates a whole new way of thinking," CEO Glenn Dobrogosz said.

The updates can't come without the public approving a bond package, but Dobrogosz thinks people will say yes when they see the vision and hear the economic impact.

The Center already produces $77 million in annual economic impact, and this plan would expand that.

"That kind of sells the full package because it's not only the science and the wholesomeness of it all but it's also the economics of it all. it works on both sides, and to me that is the golden ticket to success," Dobrogosz said.
