Entrepreneur, Dr. Adnan Mjalli, wants to build a 1.3 million square feet pharmaceutical research facility in north High Point. He has already three different bio-tech and pharmaceutical companies in High Point.
The Oasis Center would include; research labs, office buildings, apartments and town-homes for both research staff and clients. The center would also be used for clinical trials and to research and develop new drugs.
On Tuesday, plans for the center were reviewed by the city's planning and zoning commission. According to project attorney, Marc Isaacson, the city recommended approval of rezoning and annexation of the 80 acre site.
"The property is centrally located in the Triad area, it is got great access to the interstate highway system and to Piedmont Triad," Isaacson said.
Loren Hill with the High Point Economic Development Corporation, said the project could create up to 1,600 jobs.
"We love both having high paying jobs brought to the area, but also helps out reputation," Hill said.
The plan is to build the Oasis Center in two phases over the next seven to ten years. It will be located on Gallimore Dairy Rd, and access to the facility will not interfere with neighboring homes.
High Point City Council will meet Monday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. to hear zoning and annexation requests for this project.
