GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Public art such as murals and scultupres started popping up throughout the city of Greensboro.
- The City of Greensboro installed four new sculptures in Lebauer Park within the last week
- City officials says public art brings in more dollars
- Studio 503's manager says the public art brings the community together
The President and CEO of ArtsGreensboro says the impact reaches everyone.
"When art is accessible to everyone it makes our community a better, more vibrant city," Laura Way said.
The City of Greensboro installed four new sculptures in Lebauer Park within the last week. Developer Marty Kotis also commissioned a dozen more murals on the sides of buildings in downtown and midtown.
Way says the public art brings people and dollars to the city.
"That's driving tourism dollars. It's driving economic development. People are eating out, they're buying ice cream cones, they're shopping down Elm Street. They're stopping on their way out of town and getting gas. It just drives dollars," she said.
Studio 503 is a shared studio space that opened a year ago to give local artists a place to work and showcase their creations. The studio's manager says the public art brings the community together.
"It's connecting and relating to one another, and it's creating relationships and building bonds. People are curious about art, and the biggest thing to me is it creates conversations and allows people to start thinking differently about things," Caleb Williamson said.
