GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro was the very first city to have Lime bikes. Now they're all gone.

  • The bikes were removed in February after scooter ridership increased
  • Right now the company is limited to 200 scooters in the city
  • They hope to expand that number in the future

The company removed them in February after seeing how much the scooter ridership outperformed the bike trip numbers.

"In the five and a half months that we've had scooters we've surpassed the number of trips that we had on bikes in a span of 16 and a half months. So roughly one third of the time and with less vehicles we have more trips with the scooters," Greensboro Operations Manager Charles Huegel said.

Huegel says too many of the bikes were just sitting around, so they decided to focus their energy on the scooters.

Some people have reached out to Lime asking about the bikes, but the removal hasn't impacted the popularity of the scooters.

"They can get around a little quicker. We see much longer trips as well, so as where before maybe UNCG to downtown may be a long bike trip, now we're seeing trips from UNCG to the Friendly Center," Huegel said.

Right now the company is limited to 200 scooters in the city, but hope to expand that in the future.
