GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services teamed up with Guilford County Schools to help get incoming seventh graders their required vaccinations.

  • The state requires all incoming seventh graders to have a TDAP vaccination and one for Meningitis
  • Nurses planned to vaccinate about 200 children throughout the month of April
  • Students must have their required vaccines within 30 days of their first day of attendance or they have to stay at home

The state requires all incoming seventh graders to have a TDAP vaccination and one for Meningitis.

"As public health nurses one of our roles is to help the community access healthcare. That's a reason why we're providing it in the school setting, so that parents that have a difficult time getting off work or finding transportation, they're able to have their children receive immunizations here at school," Susan Hawks with the Guilford County Department of Health and Human Services said.

Nurses planned to vaccinate about 200 children throughout the month of April.

While students have all summer, GCS is looking to get it done sooner rather than later.

"It's something that we're taking care of early on, so it's not something to worry about when they come to school. They don't have to worry about that 30 days of that their vaccines are taken care of," Yvette Grier, The Director of Health Services and Nursing for GCS said.

Students must have their required vaccines within 30 days of their first day of attendance or they have to stay at home.
