WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police are investigating a wreck north of US 421 involving a vehicle that was located down an embankment.
The vehicle was located by DOT workers performing maintenance work and was not visible from the highway. Officials say it appears the truck was left on the north side of the road and then traveled down the embankment in its "resting position." The driver of the vehicle was reportedly deceased.
One official says it was a unique recovery as police had to bring in tow trucks.
"That's going to be part of the investigation determining when this happened. It's going to be a while before we make that determination. There's a different variety of investigative techniques we can use to pinpoint that, and that's something that's going on at this time," Captain Mike Weaver with the Winston-Salem Police Department said.
