NORTH CAROLINA -- Dry, sunny weather remains in place here in the Carolinas as we move throughout Tuesday.

  • After an unseasonably warm day yesterday in the 60s, we'll fall from grace and bundle up in average temperatures today
  • Wednesday will start off sunny but clouds will grow in through the day
  • Thursday will be the beginning of a messy, wet two day stretch for us

After an unseasonably warm day yesterday in the 60s, we'll fall from grace and bundle up in average temperatures today. Expect highs in the Triad area to range between the upper 40s to low 50s this afternoon. The Triangle and Sandhills area will be slightly warmer in the low to mid 50s.

High pressure ensures our fair weather with dominate the east coast today but move offshore to our east tomorrow. This will create a southerly wind flow and allow moisture to build back into the region.

Wednesday will start off sunny but clouds will grow in through the day. Some forecast models have hinted at a few light showers late, but rain will likely hold off for our area until Thursday.

Thursday will be the beginning of a messy, wet two day stretch for us. An area of low pressure will track northeast across the region producing widespread rain. Severe weather is not a concern but flash flooding will be. Rain coverage will likely be widespread for the back half of Thursday through much of the day Friday. Central North Carolina may receive anywhere between a half inch to a full inch of rain. Areas along and east of I-95 may receive higher amounts up to three inches.

The good news is this wet weather will diminish Friday night and skies will clear in time for the weekend. Sunny weather with highs in the low to mid 50s will be the case Saturday and Sunday. This weather will likely hold steady through Christmas day Tuesday.
