WILKESBORO, N.C. -- Ahead of winter weather, stores and homeowners are preparing for what may come.

  • Lowe's says the winter weather has been on their radar for days
  • Stores are quickly selling products
  • Popular items: ice melting salt, propane, heaters, slides for kids

Lowe's Home Improvement says its Emergency Command Center helps organize and stock stores ahead of the weather.

"What we do is facilitate transportation and staging of emergency products for the stores and work proactively to get products to the stores before events come in," operations manager Rick Neudorff said.

He says the weather has been on their radar.

"About a week and a half ago we started getting forecasts that this was going to be a severe event for a large portion of the United States, so our fulfillment team has worked with transportation to start pushing truckloads of product into the stores so they could be ready for the onslaught of customers," Neudorff said.

The store manager of Lowe's in Wilkesboro says that onslaught had already hit.

"We've seen a lot of people trickle in a little bit more throughout the end of the week as it's gone on to buy those products. It's selling as fast as we can get it out here," Chad Maddox said.

He says the popular items include ice melting salt, propane, heaters, generators and even sleds for the kids to have fun with.
