TAMPA, Florida — A trial date has been set for a man accused of kidnapping and attempting to kill his ex-wife.
- EARLIER STORIES:
Trevor Summers appeared before a judge Monday for a new hearing. His trial was set to begin in a few days but it was delayed after Summers got a new attorney. His trial is now set to begin in March 11, 2019.
Investigators say Summers abducted his estranged ex-wife Alisa in March 2017 and slashed her wrist and his neck in what is believed to have been a murder-suicide attempt. Authorities located her at a resort in Ruskin after she was held captive for two days.
Summers's ex-wife was in court for Monday's hearing.
"It is, in a way, empowering to see him, and say I can be in the same room, and he can't hurt me anymore," she said. "I was amazed that the date that the judge set is to the day two years from when it happened."
Alisa has remarried since the ordeal. She, her husband, and her five children moved to a new location.
