The student center that was more than four years in the making opened its doors on Thursday.
Campus leaders say they consider this space the living room of the university. It's a place for students to socialize, eat, hold events, and take a break from the academic setting.
With more than 100 organizations on campus, this space will give students an opportunity to reserve space, and meet with classmates.
The building will also be the home to offices like the office of student development, that provides leadership opportunities, and the campus programming board, that organizes programs campus-wide.
Funding for this project comes directly from the students, in that the university charges a student activity fee for all full-time students.
"It becomes sort of the hub, we've got our bookstore here, we have our food areas here there's like six different food concepts in the building so again that's going to bring our students into the building, mornings, afternoons, and evenings,” said Carl Baker, executive director of the Student Center.
