GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C.-- Guilford County Schools is working on installing a new bus tracking system that allows transportation staff to use GPS and keep track of their time card.

  • The system also has a message feature, so supervisors can send messages
  • In the future, it will also link to the one card system that's being installed in schools this year, so students will be able to scan their cards when they get on the bus
  • Transportation officials say it will take about two weeks to install the system

The system also has a message feature, so supervisors can send messages about severe weather, accidents on specific drivers' routes or any other important information while they're working.

In the future, it will also link to the one card system that's being installed in schools this year, so students will be able to scan their cards when they get on the bus and drivers can keep track of their riders.

The executive director of the transportation department, Jeff Harris, said, "This type of system will increase our capability of more efficient routing, more effective routing and better communication. I anticipate it really helping with the communication between the transportation department and schools and parents, just by connecting us all so we can run the operation more efficiently."

Transportation officials say it will take about two weeks to install the system on all the buses and then they’ll work on installing the other features.
