NORTH CAROLINA -- The High Point police headquarters is moving from Leonard Avenue to Westchester Drive.

  • City leaders voted on a $6.6 million bond authorization
  • Officials say the current building is outdated and too small
  • The department will move in to the new building next fall

City leaders voted on a $6.6 million bond authorization that will go toward the project.

Officials say the current building is outdated and too small. The city purchased the old North State for their new location.

The new building is over 60,000 square foot.

"We feel like what we are able to do is create a new police facility," said Budget and Administrative Director Eric Olmedo. "If we were to build a new one it would be a $50 million facility, so we are able to do it between $15 million and $16 million."

Leaders say the cost of the new headquarters will not impact taxes. The department will move in to the new building next fall.
