They're looking for someone with a good driving record and clean criminal history.
Drivers are asked to work a split schedule: three hours in the morning and three hours in the afternoon.
“If you're a college student, then you can spend that time in between going to classes," said the Executive Director of the Transportation department Jeff Harris. "If you're a stay at home mother, you can take care of your children during that time and some people just prefer working that split where they can do just what they need to do during the middle of the day."
The district runs 551 buses every day and has 70 substitute drivers available.
Officials say they plan to hire some of the substitutes this week to drive full-time but scheduling will still be an issue.
"Where 70 substitute drivers may seem like a lot, it's not," said Harris. "We probably need at least twice that many to get the job done effectively every day."
