BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A human trafficking investigation at a Burlington restaurant started after a fatal officer involved shooting last month.

  • A human trafficking investigation has been linked to a fatal officer-involved shooting.
  • Officers shot a man who acted erratically and walked toward them with a machete.
  • A search was conducted at a home and the restaurant, but no word on what was found.

Police say on July 23, they responded to an incident involving a man cutting tires with a machete and acting erratically at a home on Dorsett Street.

After attempting to stop him with a Taser, officers shot the man when he walked toward them with the machete.

While investigating officers noticed something that led them to believe the location could be linked to human trafficking.

They found that the man was an employee of the Hibachi Buffet at Holly Hill Mall and searched the restaurant Thursday.

They discovered the owner of the restaurant owns the home on Dorsett Street, as well as a home on Tremore Club Drive that was also searched as a result of the investigation.

As of right now, there’s no word on what they found in the search, but Spectrum News will keep you updated on this developing story.
