WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Officials are hoping to have the Gateway YWCA reopened by the middle of the week.
- The facility closed Friday when flooding in the basement caused the power to be shut off
- Nearby Salem Creek was swollen from heavy rains
- The Gateway YWCA has been open for 11 years and has about 6,000 members
The facility closed Friday when flooding in the basement caused the power to be shut off.
Nearby Salem Creek was swollen from heavy rains, causing storm drains to back up into the building.
"All the electrical equipment that was below the 4.5 foot mark needs to be replaced," said VP of Operations Greg Fagg.
Fagg plans to talk to city officials to see if something can be done to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.
The Gateway YWCA has been open for 11 years and has about 6,000 members.
