GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Several stores and restaurants line East Cone Boulevard off Highway 29 and two Greensboro developers are working on a project to fill one more empty space.
- It's been 30 years since the Carolina Circle Mall was torn down
- Currently, 26 acres of land are empty
- Plans for the site include a hotel, housing, an ice rink and more
It's at the site of the old Carolina Circle Mall torn down decades ago. In the nearly 30 years since it was torn down, a Walmart, Lowe's Home Improvement and other shops have popped up in its place leaving 26 acres still empty.
New plans include a hotel, housing, ice rink, theater and sportsplex.
"One of the most exciting things about this development is the job creation opportunities for the citizens, particularly in northeast Greensboro. Also, not just jobs, but business opportunities," said Jim Kee, the president of Kee Development Corporation.
The developers want to break ground this fall.
