GREENSBORO -- NC A&T University celebrates the life of a man who inspires many to get involved in STEM-related careers today.

Dr. Ronald McNair graduated from A&T in 1971 and went on to receive his doctorate of philosophy in physics from MIT.

McNair was an astronaut on board the Space Shuttle Challenger when it exploded on Jan. 28, 1986.

Since his death, the university has honored him and encourages students to follow in his successful path in STEM-related careers.

"He really was a trail blazer and a role model, even in his absence, for those coming along, which makes a celebration like this essential to continue to remember him and continue to amplify the messages and the life that he lived," said Joeletta Patrick, the event’s keynote speaker.

Sunday is the anniversary of the Challenger explosion.
