THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- Three suspects are in custody after a failed robbery and shooting in Thomasville Tuesday afternoon.
Police say three men robbed Avis Jewelry around 12:45, and as they were making their getaway on mopeds a witness called police and started following them in his truck.
When one of the riders pointed a gun at the truck, the witness hit the moped and knocked two robbers off. That witness was shot in the neck as the suspects got away.
Authorities chased all three suspects down, arresting two in Lexington and one in High Point.
Robert Heath, Jr., David Perry III and Donald Chambers, Jr., all from Statesville, are charged with attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and kidnapping and more charges pending.
The injured witness is in the hospital.
Avis Jewelry posted on social media that the witness was its jeweler.
The store plans to reopen Thursday.
