LEXINGTON, N.C. – A massive fire engulfed one building in flames twice on Tuesday in Lexington.

It started Tuesday morning at the Old Dixie Plant in the Depot District and reignited just after 5:30 p.m.

The 100-year-old building has been vacant for years. It is owned by the city and was slated to be renovated.

The earlier fire started at 2 a.m. The blaze was contained and put out. Crews returned to investigate and it reignited.

Lexington's Mayor Newell Clark believes the fire started by a silo on the property.

Clark believes determining the cause could take quite some time considering how massive the fire was.

No one was injured.
