SHERMAN, Texas - A North Texas city is quickly becoming a technology hub.
After criticism from the president about not producing enough products in the U.S., Apple put aside a billion dollars to show they're creating jobs. Nearly $390 million of that is being spent in Sherman, north of Dallas-Fort Worth.
Apple will work with an already established fabrication plant to make high-tech lasers used in iPhones. Apple said the two plants will employ 800 people with an average annual salary of over $80,000.
"So the people in Sherman will be part of the most sophisticated phone technology that exists in the world," said Jeff Williams, Apple COO.
The hiring process is already happening and that plant in Sherman is scheduled to start shipping out products in about a year.
