Queens residents are calling on a local real estate company to restore an old theater in Flushing.

They've started a petition asking Xinyuan Real Estate to bring the RKO Keith's Theatre back to its former glory.

Activists say there are plans to convert it into a high rise luxury condo.

The space opened in the 1928 and closed its doors in the 1980s.

"They don't build theaters like this anymore, to have something like that in your community adds to its culture. It adds to its soul," said Richard Thornhill.

According to the City Landmarks Preservation Commission, the entrance and the grand foyer of the theater were landmarked in 1984.

The Real Estate company did not respond to a request for comment.
