ROUND ROCK, Texas -- From engagement announcements to photos of Sunday brunch, we live in an age where people post everything on Facebook.

On Tuesday, one Round Rock man pushed the envelope by posting something unusual.

The man livestreamed his discovery of a dead body on Facebook, instead of calling the police.

"That's what you would think, to call 911 first thing when you find a dead body, but apparently that's not the case for everybody," said Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody.

Not only did he post it online, he also made another careless mistake by physically rummaging through items at the scene.

"I think most people have seen enough Law & Order or these crime shows to know that you're interfering with a crime scene," Sheriff Chody said.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office was notified of a dead body in a wooded area off Brushy Creek Road Tuesday afternoon.

What they didn't realize was that someone had already contaminated the scene.

"I think it's a great example of 'hey, it's my turn to go viral' type attitude, and that's speculation on my part," Chody said. "But it's frustrating too because we have detectives out there trying to determine the death of a human being."

Sheriff Chody says this wasn't an accidental social media post either.

"He found the body, went home, got an Apple iPad, came back to the scene and then Facebook lived it," he said.

It's been viewed more than 4,000 times since it was posted, and while the victim's identity remains unknown, the sheriff says it's 4,000 views too many.

"We're talking about somebody's family member. Whether they're from the Austin area or Williamson County area, it doesn't matter. It's somebody's family member," said Chody. "It's a human being for crying out loud, and let's quit being insensitive to that and report the crime."

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office says the man could face charges for tampering with evidence and obstruction.

At this time, they are not filing charges against him.

Investigators are looking into this as a deceased person, not a homicide.

Sheriff Chody says he is working to have the video taken off of Facebook entirely, and asks that anyone who comes across the video report it to Facebook.
