Despite sunshine and warm September temperatures to kick off the week for Central North NC, two Atlantic hurricanes continue to churn.  Hurricane Jose is the closest to the Carolinas sitting about 300 miles east of the Outer Banks.  Jose is a Category 1 storm.  Minimal impacts other than high surf and rip currents are expected for NC.  However, stronger winds and heavy rain are set to arrive along the New England Coast by midweek.

Meanwhile, rapidly intensifying Maria is now a major hurricane and will hammer many Caribbean islands over the next few days.  Maria is set to track over Puerto Rico on Wednesday, and then approach the Bahamas by late week.  From there, the storm will return into the western Atlantic and then hopefully turn back out to sea.  However, it's to soon to know if Maria will impact the Carolinas.  It is possible for the storm to make a landfall anywhere from Florida to the Maine sometime next week.  We should have a much better idea where the storm is headed once it arrives near the Bahamas.

Now, even though the tropics will be monitored closely this week you can expect sunshine and seasonably warm temperatures all week.  In fact, little change is expected for the upcoming weekend.  Again, any impacts from Maria would not be until the middle of next week.
