A booming business park in Herkimer County, has been a sought after dream for decades. On Wednesday, local leaders celebrated as that dream may finally become a reality. FRANKFORT, N.Y. -- The landscape of the Frankfort 5S Business Park is starting to take on a new look, and it's cause for celebration.

"Economically, this is so gigantic and so huge for the residents here in Herkimer County," said Stephen Smith, Herkimer County's IDA executive director.

On Wednesday, local leaders and officials from Tractor Supply broke ground on a 930,000-square foot distribution center.

"We expect to add over 350 jobs over the next five years, and we know that will make a meaningful impact on this community and that there's a great match here for us," said Tractor Supply Senior VP of Logistics Colin Yankee.

"Our biggest industry is agriculture, and that's one of the items, that's their main source of sales at Tractor Supply is for agricultural businesses here in Herkimer County, so it's an absolute perfect fit," said Smith.

Tractor Supply representatives say they visited more than 30 sites throughout the northeast, but fell in love with what Frankfort had to offer.

"This location with Route 5S right here was perfect for us, because it gives us great access to get our product into the distribution center and ultimately out to our stores," said Yankee.

The idea to transform the former pumpkin patch into a business park began more than 20 years ago. Local leaders who have been involved since the very beginning say it's nice to know their hard work is finally paying off.

"One of the greatest things that's happened to me since I've been with the legislature," said former county legislator Domiano Contino. "It's something that you work hard for, and to tell you the truth, I got to feel like it was never going to happen, but it has."

Construction on the facility is expected to be complete by June of next year, with product coming in the following fall.
