When the power goes out over a large area, it can often be seen from space.  Satellite images released this week by NASA show that is the case with the recent power outage along North Carolina's Outer Banks.  The images show a distinct darkness especially around Ocracoke and Hatteras.

Similar images are seen during extensive power outages after a hurricane.  This power outage was not the result of a storm though.  Construction crews building a bridge to replace the current Bonner Bridge severed an underground transmission line last Thursday.

Governor Roy Cooper stated this week a complete repair of power could take at least one to two weeks.
