CHARLOTTE - It was forty years ago when the first famous chicken and biscuits restaurant was built.

According to North Carolina Natural and Cultural Resources, on July 6, 1977, Jack Fulk and Richard Thomas opened the first Bojangles restaurant in Charlotte.

The now popular chicken eatery was once a quick service restaurant with no seating. After its first franchise in 1978, the chain of restaurants grew fast.

In 2008, Bojangles was named to Wall Street's “25 Franchise High Performers."

Fulk, a Davidson County native who always tried to stick to high quality standards, is credited for its success.

Bojangles now has more than 700 locations in 11 states and Washington D.C.

North Carolina houses the most stores at 311. To find a restaurant near you, click here.
