GREENSBORO -- Nonprofit "Tiny Houses Greensboro" broke ground Thursday on its first project to combat homelessness.

The Causey Street plot will be home to six 288-square-foot tiny homes for homeless individuals.

Greensboro Housing Coalition will set up rent payments at 30 percent of the tenants' monthly income.

Organizers believe this is a step in the right direction to addressing homelessness across the city and country.

"We want to be an organization that shares what we've been through with other organizations so they can skip those hard hurdles and get straight to building houses," said Scott Jones, Tiny Houses Greensboro executive board chair.

"Tiny Houses Greensboro" hopes to have all six houses installed and ready for move-in by the end of the year.
