It's the event some have been waiting a lifetime to see: the moon's shadow will cross North America from coast-to-coast for the first time in 99 years, providing a spectacular total eclipse of the sun for 14 states.
For all the others, including California, NASA says we can expect a very exciting partial solar eclipse.
The alignment takes place on August 21st -- mark your calendar and/or set a reminder in your smart device.
WARNING: You should never, ever look directly at the sun!
To safely view this event, you'll want to obtain some special eye protection. Sunglasses won't work.
Or be adventurous and try your hand at making a simple solar viewing projector.
In the above video, NASA scientist Noah Petro describes the path of the eclipse to our Chief Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons and tells us what to expect during the event.
