SAN ANTONIO - It’s been several days since the public first got its first look at what could be a secondary Spurs logo.
Staring at a copy of the circular-shaped back and white logo with a SA stamp planted in the middle, Spurs fan Reynaldo Lopez was not kidding when he said “I thought it was a joke when I saw this."
If you are one of the hundreds of thousands or perhaps millions of the Spurs loyal fan base in the Alamo City or around the state, opinions are parallel and cutting.
"I don't get this, and it doesn't look like a Spurs logo," said Lopez
Because online fan comments fall into the thumbs down category for the pending Spurs logo, graphic designers were asked for their expert thoughts on the new design.
"I thought it was satire when I saw it online,” says Angel Moreno. “I didn't think it was for real."
Moreno has a design background and is a sales rep with Next Day Custom Tees on the city’s Southside, and says the concept falls flat in the creative arena.
“It’s that bad,” said Moreno.
Lopez also is a pro. He owns RAYCO Screen Printing directly across the street from Next Day Custom Tees.
"This look like a hockey logo more than anything,” Lopez said, “Somebody's hockey logo. That's what this looks like."
The Spurs organization has trademark patents pending for the new logo.
The team is tight-lipped about whether this new circular-basketball-looking SA brand will officially become a part of the team.
Spurs fans have already started an online petition to make sure this doesn't become the new logo.
