HOLLYWOOD PARK, Texas — The City of Hollywood Park is celebrating the completion of a $5.7 million initiative involving improvements at Voigt Park.

Efforts included a massive community center expansion, a swimming pool reconstruction with multiple lanes, beach entries, new tennis and volleyball courts, walking paths, playground equipment and a butterfly garden.

Zero property tax dollars were used to fund the project — Instead it all came through sales, venue and hotel taxes.

City leaders say it truly took a community effort to make it happen.

"There were four different committees. We had almost 25 percent of the residents all have a personal stake in what happened at this. Whenever we had the election to make this happen, it passed with over 90 percent of the vote,” said Mayor Chris Falls.

Both residents and non-residents of Hollywood Park can use the facilities.

Leaders say the next step is to try and expand the parking lot and make it accessible for food trucks.
