AUSTIN, Texas — It's no secret we love our animals here in Austin. And on Wednesday, one nonprofit group is making it easy for you to keep your pets happy and healthy.
Emancipet is offering free spay and neuter procedures and free preventative care for Travis County residents.
The city of Austin has maintained no-kill status for more than 6 years, meaning at least 90 percent of animals the shelter takes in leave alive.
The city's annual live outcome rate is over 96 percent. And in April of the year, Austin Animal Service's live outcome rate was nearly 98 percent.
City officials attribute spaying and neutering as a big part of maintaining that no-kill status.
The services are available via their mobile clinic first come, first serve at Garrison Park on Manchaca Road.
If you can come, it's recommended you come early because there's limited space.
The mobile clinic will arrive at 8 a.m. and will stay there through 5 p.m. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the clinic will offer free walk-up preventative care including rabies, DHPP, bordetella, FVRCP, FELV, FELV/FIV testing, heartworm testing and heartworm prevention.
In order to utilize the free spay/neutering service, drop-offs must be made by 8 a.m. at the latest with a 5 p.m. pickup.
There will be additional free days on June 1 and 2 if you are unable to make this one. Emancipet also offers low-cost services throughout the year.
