CHARLOTTE -- A South Mecklenburg High School teacher charged for having inappropriate, sexual relationships with several male students made his first court appearance Thursday afternoon.

The judge ordered Juan Vazquez not to have any contact with those students, either in person or through social media.  He has been charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a student and three counts of a sex act with a student.

The inappropriate and predatory behavior began when Vazquez started a study group with seven boys in January, according to Assistant District Attorney Kristen Northrup.   She told the judge the study group, made of students either 17 or 18 years old, met off-campus at Vazquez's apartment.

According to the ADA, the 28-year-old gave massages to a number of boys while they only wore underwear, showed porn to four of them, and performed sex acts on two. He took inappropriate photos of one as well.

All of this came to light when a member of that study group came forward. The ADA says the student said Vazquez made comments about his private parts and suggested a threesome, implying he could get an "A" in the class if they came to some kind of agreement on the matter.

Vazquez has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.  He has been a teacher at South Mecklenburg High School since 2013.

He has currently being held on a $165,000 bond.  His next court appearance is set for May 24.
