Organizers at an event in South Beach have found a way to make volleyball a more inclusive sport for players of varying abilities.

The Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex held their first ever sitting volleyball tournament on Saturday.

According to NYC Parks, "Sitting Volleyball is an adapted sport where the game of volleyball is played on a smaller court with a lower net and all players must sit on the floor".

It also allows "players with and without physical impairments" to play together.

At Saturday's event, participants served and spiked the ball either from the ground or a wheelchair. Organizers said the set up is just one way that they could make the game more accessible to a wider range of participants.

"It's a way just to bring sports and an active lifestyle to everybody," said Lauren Primerano, the park administrator at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.

A similar event will be held at the complex next month.
