NATIONWIDE -- Prom season is just around the corner.
It's a day of excitement for prom goers, but it can also be a big headache for parents. Between the dresses, corsages, salon appointments and transportation, prom day can be very expensive and stressful.
That's why Better Business Bureau of North Carolina offers some advice on how to avoid stress and maybe even save some money.
The organization provided the following tips and cost estimates for prom services:
- Prom Attire - Average price of a prom dress or a tuxedo can range from $100 to $400; designer dresses can easily cost up to $1000. If your daughter wants to wear a designer gown, make sure to go to a reputable retailer. Sometimes a great deal can actually be a cheap knock off.
- Beauty - Average cost for tanning, nail salons, professional hair and makeup often ranges from $175 to $500. When booking beauty services, be sure to leave extra time in case the hairdresser or nail salon is overbooked.
- Transportation - Average cost of a limo can range from $200 to $500, depending on the type of vehicle and number of hours needed. Always make sure to have a written contract to ensure you get what you paid for. The contract should include hours of service, required fees including gratuities and maximum capacity allowed.
- Corsages - Average cost for flowers ranges from $20 to $75. Make sure to use a reputable florist and have a written order with delivery times and types of flowers.
- Photography - Average cost can range from $30 to $250. Again, if hiring a professional, have a written contract so that you understand what is included.
