GREENSBORO -- The City of Greensboro is courting a company it inadvertently snubbed in recent years.
City leaders say they're reaching out to Trader Joe's about the possibility of a Greensboro store.
A few years ago, the chain had its eye on the property at Friendly Avenue and Hobbs Road, but neighbors fought development of the space and the idea fell through.
Trader Joe's hasn't approached the city about a Greensboro store since, so the city's drafting a letter to ask for another shot.
"I would hope they would give us a second or third look, whatever the case may be. We've got great locations throughout the city, and I think we have the base that they need," said Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan.
"We get a lot of comments from constituents that want a Trader Joe's here. A lot of folks drive 40-45 minutes to Winston-Salem," said Tony Wilkins, Greensboro City Council.
Winston-Salem has the only Trader Joe's in the Triad.
