CHARLOTTE -- UNC-Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen is now out on bond after being arrested on rape charges.
Olsen, who is a 22-year-old junior, is the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen.
He was taken to the Charlotte Mecklenburg Jail Sunday on three counts of second-degree forcible rape, assault on a female and cyberstalking.
In the courtroom on Monday, the assistant district attorney alleges that Olsen and a girlfriend were out in uptown Saturday night, and alcohol was involved.
They got separated at one point and the assistant DA says Olsen allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend via text message. Once reunited, they got into an Uber to go home.
Once there, the victim says Olsen put a phone charger around his neck in the bathroom and threatened to kill himself. The girlfriend talked him down from that. Soon after, the assistant DA says Olsen asked for sex and then allegedly punched the girlfriend in the face, giving her a bruised eye.
He then sexually assaulted her, the assistant DA says, three separate times.
The victim's friend took her to the hospital where an exam determined she did show signs of sexual assault. That was early Sunday morning.
Olsen's lawyer declined to comment on Monday morning, saying that Olsen would be living with his parents once released.
Both of Olsen's parents were in court, but his brother was not present.
His bond had been set at $103,000.
UNC-Charlotte Head Football Coach Brad Lambert issued a statement which said: “We are aware of the situation with Kevin. In light of his arrest, we can let you know that Kevin has been suspended from all athletic activities. We aren't able to comment further due to the current investigation."
In a statement, the university said it is "reviewing the case consistent with its disciplinary procedures.''
