GREENSBORO -- Industrial Avenue in Greensboro is really busy this time of year as UPS ramps up to deliver thousands of holiday packages.

"We have a lot of influx traffic including our packaging drivers as well as our employees that work for us so, with that said, we actually have police officers out behind me, you can see those guys are directing traffic," said Chris Shoenfeld, UPS Health and Safety manager.

Shoenfeld says there are about 220 trucks that go out in the morning each day from the Greensboro hub. Nationwide, UPS is projected to deliver more than 700 million packages between Thanksgiving and Dec. 31.

"This is our Super Bowl so each year. We know the volume is coming because customers are going to order. With that said, there are 30 shopping days and there are 25 delivery days during this time. We start well in advance several months out. We coordinate here with the Greensboro Police Department, we do this in other locations as well," said Shoenfeld.

UPS officials had to increase the parking lot to accommodate the 3,000 employees they have during peak season.

"You could also see a roped off area behind the sign because we increase the number of employees we have to make sure we have adequate parking for those folks, so we actually increase that where they can park up on that hill," said Shoenfeld.

Seasonal workers and Greensboro Police will be on the job even after the big day. In fact, it will continue into the new year.

"Peak season not only continues through Christmas but actually extends a little bit beyond that based on returns and just additional volume coming in, so we estimate some of that will be dropping off about the second week in January," said Shoenfeld.

UPS is also partnering with Winston-Salem police to help control the traffic around their Patterson Avenue location.
