GUILFORD COUNTY -- Distracted driving claims the lives of 11 teenagers every day in America.
The North Carolina Crash Prevention Network wants to change that with a new approach to saving lives -- and it involves a virtual simulator.
Michael Jackson, Executive Director of the crash prevention network, said, "It allows you to sit, as though you are in a car, you have the screen in front of you, as though it is your windshield, and the kids are able to get a firsthand view of what happens when you lose sight of what is going on in front of you when you look to answer a text or to answer your cell phone."
It also simulates what can happen after an accident, or when you drive under the influence.
Students in Guilford County will be able to begin using the simulator in January.
