SURRY COUNTY -- The History Channel's hit show "American Pickers" is coming back to North Carolina. Surry County tourism officials are selecting residents to be part of the antique-hunting show.

At the Design Archives Emporium in downtown Greensboro they have nicknamed Sundays, "celebrity Sundays."

"One of my employees walks around the corner and sees this guy and goes, 'Oh my gosh! You're Mike from 'American Pickers!'' Of course, I don't remember anything after that because I was embarrassed, my face turned red I was so excited," said Kit Rodenbough, owner of Design Achives Emporium.

That was just a couple of years ago. Now, the show is interested in coming back to the Tar Heel State. Surry County tourism people received a phone call about two weeks ago.

"Finding out about places where they can pick and looking for locations and people of interest that would be a good part of the show," said Jessica Roberts, Mount Airy tourism and marketing director.

Rodenbough's experience with the show gave her and the area great exposure. And as someone who once lived in Surry County, she knows there are treasures to be found.

"There is, I'm sure, a lot of good picking, good items up there. There's a lot of good barns and any rural areas are going to have neat places. I think it's a smart move for them. I think they can't go wrong, they'll definitely find some great items," said Rodenbough.

But the county needs your help.

"We're really looking for people that have great materials, items and things of interest they want to look at," said Roberts.

Now the area that made Andy Griffith a household name could get another shot at the spotlight.

"American Pickers" will come to shoot sometime this fall.
