LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- As the Rio Olympics come to an end, USA luge is on the hunt for future Olympians.
They're finding young athletes through their Slider Search program.
Children ages 9 to 13 can come for clinics like this one, earlier this week, in Lake Placid that show them how to ride on wheel-equipped luge sleds.
And, they even take a few runs down a hill.
The athletes who show promise in the summer program are invited to try luge on ice at a USA luge training site.
The top athletes from that group are selected for USA Luge's junior development team in the hopes of one-day competing for their country.
"The Slider Search has been running since 1985 and has produced two Olympic medalists and 19 Olympians so it's a great success and its our primary recruiting program, it's how we find athletes," said Gordy Sheer, USA Luge marketing director and luge silver medalist
The country's most recent luge medalist, Erin Hamlin was discovered in a Slider Search.
The next Slider Search will be in Burlington, Vermont September 10th and 11th.
