WINSTON-SALEM -- Being one of the first graduates from a prestigious medical school is an accomplishment in itself but how about being invited back to your old school to tour a new facility.

The Wake Forest School of Medicine invited one of its first graduates, Edgar Marks, back to campus to tour the new Bowman Gray Center for medical education.

The now 94 year old practiced internal medicine in the Gate City for more than 40 years after graduating.

He visited the school last week to talk about how medical education and health care has evolved over the past 70 years.

"Our tour was not of the old stomping grounds. It's the new stomping grounds, but I'm able to compare what the new students will be doing versus what we did, and the facilities are absolutely gorgeous here," said Dr. Marks, Wake Forest School of Medicine graduate.

Dr. Marks mentioned the advancement in materials used to study medicine, gender diversification in students and that when he was in school, tuition was only $450 a year.
