MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- The Better Business Bureau warned people Monday about a Mount Airy business that’s received multiple complaints.

The BBB said Better Built Garages may no longer be in business despite collecting down payments on structures and not delivering what people paid for. The responses prompted BBB to investigate the company. BBB said it tried multiple times to contact Better Built Garages but still hasn’t received a response.

"It looks like they took a lot of money upfront and with that they just left. We have a number of accounts where they've lost from $1,000 all the way up to $12,000," BBB president, Brian Wright said.

The Better Built Garages website says the company has manufactured garages, barns and steel buildings since 1991.

Surry County Sheriff, Graham Atkinson said it’s investigating the company. Detectives have a couple of suspects and the sheriff said charges are forthcoming.
