It takes a special kind of person to spend 50 years going to the same job each day. Here at Time Warner Cable that man exists. As our John Salazar shows us, one of our service technicians is celebrating that milestone Monday.

SAN ANTONIO -- Time Warner Cable Technician Alfredo "Monte" Montemayor said he's had a good reason to go to work every day.

"When you're really having fun with the job, and the job is exciting, time flies," he said.

For Montemayor, that's kind of an understatement. The 72-year-old Texas native has been answering calls since 1966.

Five decades on the job working for the same company.

"Well you know, when I first started, I thought I was going to try that for a few months," said Montemayor.

That expectation took him to greater heights.

"Did you make it past a few months?" asked TWC News Reporter John Salazar.

"It's 699 months now," replied Montemayor. "Time has passed and it's been exciting ever since."

Montemayor began his five-decade career during the infancy of cable.

"When I first started working I was just 21," he said.

Now with his eye on retirement, Montemayor's time on the job is celebrated.

"Yes we are very fortunate to have had Monte for the last 50 years. It's rarely seen in any industry for someone to stick around for so long. It's phenomenal. We're truly grateful for his presence," said Paul Arrendondo with Time Warner Cable.

Jaime Munoz, Montemayor's partner out in the field, said he can't even imagine his friend putting down his tools for the last time.

"I'm with him most of the time. And not having him is going to be hard. It's going to be tough," said Munoz.

As this energetic senior closes a lengthy chapter in his book of life, he offered some advice.

"We have limited time in everything that we do. And we must enjoy it. But we must pass it on to the next fellow," said Montemayor.

Montemayor’s wife recently retired from her job after 46 years.

The Rio Grande Valley man says when he retires he'll take more time to ride his motorcycle, as well as continue to volunteer in the community.

From all of us here at Time Warner Cable News, we wish Monte the best of luck.
