GREENSBORO - Baseballs won't be the only thing people will be trying to catch at New Bridge Bank Park this week. The team is hosting a special Pokemon Go event hoping their Pokestops attract people to the area.
The team’s Vice President, Katie Dannemiller said they’ve had people coming through the stadium since the app’s release.
“People can come in and park and access them,” said Dannemiller, “There's not any danger to anybody. So we thought we'd jump on board."
The stadium has 2 Pokestops people can collect various items anytime of day.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers aren't the only one's to embrace this Pokemon Go phase going on around the country. M’Coul's pub in downtown Greensboro is a Pokemon Go Gym. They say its helped attract a lot of extra business.
"We have people coming in and sitting at the bar,” said employee Jessi Eriksen, “We had a full bar up here. They were all playing Pokemon Go. Which is pretty good so that's helpful."
Eriksen and Donnemiller say they've seen more foot traffic in downtown since Pokemon Go was released. If the game does end up becoming just a fad, they hope it will have a long term effect downtown.
“Hopefully they're kind of getting out and seeing different places,” said Eriksen, “Maybe going to visit different places. I think it can be helpful."
The PokemonGo event kicks off at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Grasshoppers' stadium.
