The 24-year old man accused of fatally shooting a Brooklyn teenager was arraigned Friday on several charges, including murder.
Taariq Stephens is accused of shooting 16-year-old Shemel Mercurius with a machine gun Tuesday night in East Flatbush.
Stephens surrendered to police Thursday night.
He's due back in court Wednesday.
Authorities say surveillance video shows Stephens forcing his way into the apartment where Mercurius was babysitting her cousin.
Police still have not recovered the .40-caliber submachine gun used in the shooting.
Investigators say Mercurius identified Stephens as her killer before she died.
They say the two had only known each other for about two weeks.
Police originally thought the two had been in a romantic relationship, but now say that wasn't the case.
The victim's family says they want answers.
"I never see the person, or know the person, she lives right in the neighborhood, I've never seen this person in the neighborhood, so everyone say if I know this guy, but honestly I never know this guy," said Dexter Mercurius the victim's father. "I never seen this guy, so I wanted to know why this guy killed my daughter, because my daughter's 16 and this guy's 24."
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the teen's family cover funeral expenses and set up a scholarship in her name.
