GREENSBORO, N.C. -- More progress is coming to Greensboro’s Downtown Greenway.

Construction is underway on the third of four cornerstones on the four-mile paved bike and walking trail surrounding the center of Downtown Greensboro. Downtown Greenway released photos Tuesday of pieces made for the major public art piece.

It will be at the corner of Lindsay Street and Murrow Boulevard. The site theme is Innovation and will incorporate various interactive elements.

"It's really looking at the role that some of the very early innovated businesses like those textile businesses that really made Greensboro what it is today," said Downtown Greenway Project Manager Dabney Sanders.

But that's not all. Work is set to begin on three sections of the trail by the end of this year.

"It's exciting,” Sanders said. “This has been a very long-term project as major projects like this often times are. We hear the community calling out for it to be finished as quickly as it possibly can and we're working very hard to do that."

Sanders anticipates the cornerstone project being completed in July. Construction of two sections of the trail will likely begin late in like summer and the other in late fall.
