RALEIGH -- A Raleigh home is getting some attention in the national spotlight after a popular show on the DIY Channel created a major state-of-the-art upgrade to a backyard deck.
As summer quickly approaches, Michelle and Aaron Vedder, along with their five rescue pups, are ready to relax in their brand new outdoor oasis.
“I don't think we've left here for more than a few hours. We go inside to sleep but that's about it,” said Michelle Vedder, homeowner and vice-president of Synergy Integrated Systems.
The Vedders have been living in their Raleigh home for about six years, but after dealing with severe water damage to their back deck they knew they were due for an upgrade.
So they called the DIY Channel’s Mega Decks Team with a proposal.
“Initially it was a simple call to get a design. Mega Decks has never done a deck on the East Coast, but, after talking with Garth [Hystad], he was interested in the audio-video features we could add to the deck and wanted to partner up and make this his first deck on the East Coast,” added Vedder.
The Vedders have an audio-video company together called Synergy Integrated Systems.
“We did all the planning and installation for all the audio-video and low voltage. Everything comes on automatically,” Vedder said.
So the couple paired their skills with the Mega Decks Team and after three months of construction they were able to transform their outdated two-level deck into a state of the art wireless entertainment zone with several televisions, a projection screen and fans that automatically turn on when you walk into the room.
“Our biggest feature is the glass. It looks like a glass forest. It collapses down to both sides on the left and right. You can have screens automatically come down,” added Vedder.
“Every space is capable of having something like this. It's just a matter of having the imagination and the ability to get it done,” said Aaron Vedder
Their Mega Deck is 2,000 square feet. It took 7,500 feet of wire to connect all the audio visual elements.
