NORTH CAROLINA -- In honor of the late Jim Connors, Time Warner Cable News has announced it is establishing an internship program to benefit future sports journalists.

The Jim Connors Memorial Internship Program will offer a rising college senior or grad student a paid opportunity to cover daily assignments and make regular camera appearances, working closely with members of the sports staff.

Jim Connors was Time Warner Cable News' sports director for 13 years. He anchored sportscasts in Winston-Salem and New Bern as well as Bluefield, West Virginia, and Billings, Montana, before joining Time Warner Cable News in 2002. He won multiple awards for his work at these stations.

"We searched for ways to keep his memory alive. We thought about what meant the most to him and how he would want to be remembered. Jim treasured his family and friends, followed by his passion for all sports. Jim loved this business. He passed along his words of wisdom and experience to younger journalists every chance he got," said Bernie Han, vice president of Time Warner Cable News.

Time Warner Cable News is hoping to select the first Jim Connors Memorial intern this fall.
