SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A new feature at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo may be the perfect option for the entire family this summer.
Tickets are on sale for a series of evening movies to be shown at the zoo called Zoovies.
If you have a family particularly with children, this new Zoovies series may be a perfect option for you. Seating is limited so folks are encouraged to get their tickets ahead of time.
Three animal-themed films are set to be shown on Thursday nights in late June, July and August.
A giant blowup screen will be set up in front of the zoo's Jungle Cafe and light refreshments will be available.
The gates to the zoo usually close at 4:30 p.m., but will re-open at 6 p.m. so guests are encouraged to visit the zoo then stay for the 8:30 p.m. movie.
The idea is to attract families here at night after a long day or perhaps when it gets a little cooler outside.
"A lot of parents work during the summer, and they get out of work and the zoo is already closed for the day. So, we thought it would be fun to try something new. We have a beautiful courtyard here so we'll be able to open the zoo for a couple hours, so that folks can enjoy a trip and come and see the movie and the courtyard after dusk," said Jaime Alvarez, a zoo spokesperson.
The films include "Rio" on June 23, "Mister Popper's Penguins" on July 21 and "Zootopia" on August 11.
Tickets are available online for $5 for members and $10 for non-members.
