Mets fans had plenty to celebrate at the team's home opener, a 7-2 win over the Phillies. NY1's Ruschell Boone filed the following report.

It was a chilly day for baseball, but the Mets were on fire.

Citi Field was rocking on opening day as thousands of Mets fans both young and old watched the team crush the Philies with a 7-2 win.

"Oh man, it was amazing. Come on. Can't ask for anything better than that," said one Mets fan.

"It's always good when you win, but opening day makes it so much better," said another.

But while many were celebrating, some fans were forced to keep it under wraps.

"You can't cheer really loud when your girlfriend is a Phillies fan," one fan said. "Oh, I cheered enough. They heard me. Hey hey hey. How great was the game? Phenomenal."

Watching the Mets on opening day has been a long standing tradition among many Mets fans who come here with friends and family every year.

"This is our 15th year in a row," said one fan.

"I'm ecstatic," said another. "I couldn't imagine I would be able to share this with my whole family. It's awesome."

This year, Cowbell Man brought Mrs. Cowbell, and the Pin Man helped to rev up the crowd.

"We're just continuing from last year. It's fantastic," the Pin Man said.

And like last year, many believe the team will be back in the postseason, playing ball well into the fall.

"I'm very proud of the Mets," said one fan. "I can't wait for the end of this season because we're going back to the World Series. And you just saw it. You just saw it."

Now that would be amazin'.
